This program provides paramedics, EMTs, uniformed patrol officers, rescue squads, firefighters, air medical pilots and nurses with functional Spanish language skills to enable them to assist Spanish-speaking people in emergency situations. The program focuses on concise phrases, questions and commands critical for first responders. There are two levels of training in this program – basic and intermediate.

Upon program completion, participants will be able to use Spanish to provide emergency aid, engage in triage protocol, make a physical assessment of a patient, issue orders, obtain pertinent information, calm victims and their families, explain treatment performed, determine patient’s chief complaint and facilitate transport of the injured.

Note: This program is approved by the Office of Emergency Medical Services in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for continuing education credit.

This program is designed for judges who interact with Spanish-speaking individuals.

The language portion of this program is designed to provide judges with very basic Spanish language skills in order to manage an initial, introductory interface with Spanish-speaking individuals within a courtroom setting. The Hispanic culture segment is designed to provide an overview of Hispanic culture with a focus on language and communication style, family values, traditions and customs, religion, gender issues, Spanish naming conventions and attitudes towards the law.

Upon program completion, participants will be able to use Spanish to greet Spanish-speakers, make an introduction, use polite words and titles and enquire about a Spanish-speaker’s English language ability.
